Senior Citizen Prom in Royal Palm Beach

Royal Palm Beach's Senior Citizen Prom is open to all those 60 and over.

The Royal Palm Beach senior group Young at Heart makes a fairy tale come true with its Senior Citizen Prom on May 26.

Anyone 60 or older may attend and relive high school memories to vocalist Troy McCray’s trio. Also included are a buffet dinner, raffles, gift cards, masks and the coronation of the prom king and queen.

What: Senior Citizen Prom

When: May 26, 3 to 7 p.m.

Who: Village of Royal Palm Beach Senior Young at Heart Club (YAH)

Where: Royal Palm Beach Cultural Center, 151 Civic Center Way

Price: $25 for members, $35 for nonmembers

Contact: 561-790-5124

“The theme of the prom is masquerade,” says Shakeera Thomas, the supervisor of senior programs for Royal Palm Beach. “When the seniors arrive, they’ll get a goodie bag that will include a masquerade mask, with the ladies also getting a feather boa. I had Troy McCray perform for Young at Heart’s Valentine’s Day luncheon in February, and everyone loved him, so I’m expecting lots of dancing.”

All attendees may vote on the king and queen.

This is Young at Heart’s first Senior Citizen Prom, an indication of Thomas’ commitment to expanding the events and activities of the 205-member senior group after being involved for nearly two years.

“We’ve still set out to make it look and feel like an actual prom,” Thomas says. “It happens during prom season. There’s a buzz about what colors and styles they’re planning to wear.”

The cutoff date to register is May 21. Go to royalpalmbeachfl.gov, or call 561-790-5124.
