Madeline deVries Hooper, the host of the PBS series “GardenFit,” brings her innovative techniques for pain-free gardening to Mounts Botanical Garden for the three-part “Get GardenFit” workshop series Feb. 15, March 16 and April 5.

Known for blending self-care with horticultural expertise, deVries Hooper will guide participants through simple, body-awareness adjustments designed to prevent common gardening aches and pains. Whether you’re weeding, digging, planting or pruning, these practical techniques can reduce stress on the body.

“Our bodies are our most important gardening tool,” deVries Hooper says. “I am passionate about helping gardeners take care of themselves while taking care of their gardens, and what better place to share this than at Mounts Botanical Garden?”

Before becoming a national advocate for wellness in the garden, deVries Hooper built a career in public relations as the founder of DeVries Global. After retiring, she pursued ballroom dancing and teaching before turning to gardening.

After she struggled with aches and pains from her gardening projects, a personal trainer helped her develop techniques to reduce discomfort and improve mobility. Those adjustments became the foundation of her PBS series and now inspire gardeners nationwide to prioritize body mechanics as much as plant care.

She lives in Columbia County, New York, where she and her husband have spent 30 years cultivating Rockland Farm, a 10-acre garden they designed from scratch.
