A Night of Unity and Community at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 will mark the first anniversary of the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust and the world’s worst terrorist attack since 9/11.

Organized by the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County and more than two dozen partner organizations, the event at Dreyfoos Hall at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts welcomes people 13 and older of all backgrounds to hear from survivors, relatives of victims and Ambassador Michael Oren. The program includes musical performances and special presentations.

“This evening is about bringing the entire community together, all faiths, Jews and non-Jews alike, all ethnicities, to stand up for Israel and our Palm Beach County Jewish community as we demonstrate solidarity, strength and love while remembering the lives lost, honor survivors and first responders, and pray for and demand the safe return of hostages,” says Susan Shulman Pertnoy, who is co-chairing the event with her husband, Ronnie Pertnoy.

The speakers will include Asher Levy, whose sister’s family was murdered Oct. 7 in the Hamas attack on Kibbutz Kfar Aza, and a survivor of the slaughter at the Nova music festival. Oren, an author and a former Israeli ambassador to the United States who also served in the Israeli parliament, will offer insights into the historical significance of Oct. 7 and the future of Israel and the global Jewish community.

A mix of clergy will lead a collective prayer for peace, Israel and the United States.

“In the face of global challenges, adversity and rising hate, this evening will be tremendously meaningful for all who attend,” Shulman Pertnoy says. “Let us join together, united.”

Admission is free, but registration is required — no walk-ins. The event is fully booked, but details on joining the wait list are at www.jewishpb.org/october7.

The Kravis Center is at 701 Okeechobee Blvd. in West Palm Beach.
