Daggerwing Nature Center in the Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park west of Boca Raton features a 3,000-square-foot hall with live animals, exhibits, classroom facilities, a laboratory, an art gallery, a quiet area for reading, a butterfly garden and an elevated boardwalk through the swamplands.
The boardwalk has two trails, a relaxation area for sitting and an observation tower to view the plant and animal life, which includes ospreys, woodpeckers, butterflies, turtles, alligators and a variety of bromeliads.
The Daggerwing Nature Center operates with a mission to improve people’s quality of life by providing learning opportunities and experiences in nature and through outdoor recreation.

Mother Nature & Me: Stormy Weather Tuesday
Aug. 2, 10:30 a.m.
$4 per child, ages 2-5 with a guardian
A fun morning for toddlers and preschoolers to jump and shout with Mother Nature through stories, animals, activities and crafts.
Fishing Fun
Friday, Aug. 5, 10 a.m.
$10 per person, ages 8 and up
In this interactive class, kids will learn the basics of freshwater fishing, including fishing pole basics, casting tips and fish identification. All supplies are provided. Bring a water bottle, sunscreen and closed-toed shoes that can get wet and muddy.
Daggerwing Visits the Library: Frogs & Toads
Tuesday, Aug. 9, 3:30 p.m.
Free, ages 8 and up
A special program at the West Boca Branch Library teaches about frogs and toads and features a visit from some of the center’s animal ambassadors. RSVP for the free program with the West Boca Branch Library at 561-470-1600.

$4 per child, ages 2-5 with a guardian
A fun morning for toddlers and preschoolers to jump and shout with Mother Nature through stories, animals, activities and crafts. Ages 2 to 5 with a guardian required; the fee is $4 per child.
Sensational Snakes
Saturday, Aug. 20, 10:30 a.m.
$3 per person, ages 5 and up
Learn all about Florida snakes and how to identify the most common ones in the area, and meet some slithering friends.
