The Junior League of the Palm Beaches invites participants of all ages and fitness levels to run across the fields of the Houston Astros and the Washington Nationals at the second annual Sprint Into Spring Training 5K run/walk Saturday, Feb. 1.
Both Major League Baseball teams hold spring training at CACTI Park, formerly The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. The 5K’s top male and female finishers win the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a spring training game.
Instead of the 5K, children can participate in a 100-yard dash that culminates at home plate.
“This isn’t just a race; it’s an experience,” said Maria Pumarejo, the president of the Junior League of the Palm Beaches. “Whether you’re running, walking or enjoying the event with your little one in a stroller, it’s a fun and memorable way to spend the day. Plus, every step supports the Junior League’s mission to make a meaningful difference in the community.”
Proceeds benefit the Junior League’s initiatives, which focus on literacy, health care and children’s services, and support leadership development for its members. The volunteer-led nonprofit has been served Palm Beach County for nearly 85 years.
Details for race day:
• Registration and packet pickup — 6:30 to 7:45 a.m.
• Race start — 5K at 8 a.m., Kids Dash at 9 a.m.
• Awards ceremony — 10 a.m.
Participants can run in person or virtually. Registration is $40 for the 5K and $25 for the Kids Dash; prices increase after Jan. 13. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
“This event is about more than crossing the finish line,” Pumarejo said. “It’s about building memories, enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime experience and supporting a legacy of community service.”
