Daggerwing Nature Center gets spooky in October

Snakes, owls and spiders, oh, my! Daggerwing Nature Center is hosting two Halloween-inspired events in October. Check out the following events:

“Creepy Critters” takes place Oct. 22 at 10:30 a.m. The event is $3 and is suitable for ages 5 and up. Attendees can learn about creatures that may carry negative connotations because of their scary looks or bad reputations and can delve into what makes these animals great. Daggerwing animal residents could join in the fun.

“Hoot & Howl” is Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. and is free for all ages. Participants are invited to arrive in Halloween costumes and partake in games, crafts and other events. The evening teaches about owls, toads, snakes and spiders, and Daggerwing staffers lead a walk across the boardwalk. Bring a flashlight and bug spray.

Daggerwing, within Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park west of Boca Raton, offers exhibits, a laboratory, an art gallery, a butterfly garden and a boardwalk through the swamp, complete with two trails and an observation tower.

Daggerwing hosts events for nature lovers year-round. Guided boardwalk tours are a constant. Naturalist walks take participants along a 1-hour trail to discover the plant and animal communities within the park and Daggerwing’s rich history.

Daggerwing Nature Center is at 11435 Park Access Road and is open Wednesday through Friday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The boardwalk is open from sunrise to sunset.
