Hurricane Idalia made landfall Aug. 30 in the Big Bend region.
The state’s Citizens Property Insurance Corp. has received “a little over” 2,000 claims from Hurricane Idalia, with the largest numbers in Taylor, Pinellas and Pasco counties, Craig Sakraida, a Citizens vice president, said Tuesday.
He said more than 60 percent of the claims have been inspected, with 15 percent closed. “We anticipate having this wrapped up relatively quickly with a low claim count,” Sakraida said during a meeting of the Citizens Board of Governors Claims Committee.
The Category 3 Idalia made landfall Aug. 30 in the Keaton Beach area of Taylor County after moving up the Gulf of Mexico. It crossed through rural North Florida counties into Georgia.
Meanwhile, Sakraida said Citizens continues to receive about 150 to 175 new claims a week from Hurricane Ian, which made landfall in September 2022 in Lee and Charlotte County before barreling across the state.
